Racism Against Asian Americans

Racism Against Asian Americans

Friends, on any given day there are any number of disasters happening in this country. From politics, Corona Virus to something sports related. As a small business owner you never want to make comments publicly online on Facebook or Twitter in fear of losing business, especially in times like these! But, when something so egregious is taking place in our country it is hard to keep quiet.

Is it not bad enough that we as a country are looked upon as those were the people that owned slaves for decades! I believe there is a sect of people who do not believe in the saying “We learn from our past so we do not repeat it”. We should be taking guidance from Germany as they have learned valuable lessons on how to treat humanity. Im not saying we are going back to a time of slavery, but how horribly human beings are being treated as of late. Im sure you can see the analogy. It all started somewhere! How and why? I have no idea. But I can only imagine by the way Asian Americans across this country are being treated right now, I can see where it might have started!

I remember in the beginning of the Corona Virus pandemic hearing people say they were afraid to got to Asian restaurants. Id ask, why? The response was “Because the Chinese were bringing the virus back to the US and infecting people”. OK, for the record I have to say some of the people who were saying these things were more than likely  dropped on their heads as children! To say such ridiculous things is just another form of racism in my book. Obviously, the people who were saying those type of things were quickly escorted out of my life.

Even in recent events like elderly Asian Americans being beaten and verbally abused in over the last year has been on the rise. According to a study done by The Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at CSU San Bernardino, close to 4,000 (up 150%) hate attacks happened against Asian Americans in 2020 from physical violence, racial slurs to businesses owned by Asian Americans. I cant imagine what it must be like to live in such fear to not want to leave your own home, to not open your business for fear that you may be attacked or someone might come in and start shooting!

Is this what we have become in this country? I have to say personally I am disgusted by racism in any form. There are great people of every race in this country and yes there are bad as well, but to me that has nothing to do with your race or the color of your skin. It has to do with how you were raised which leads to another HUGE conversation. I will say this, If you grew up in a house hold with racists or hate speech on a daily basis I can understand a young child mimicking those sentiments. BUT, you eventually grow into an adult and have the ability to see the world for yourself. If an adult behaves and has racism in his/her heart then they need serious amounts of therapy! There is no longer room for racism, antisemitism or bigotry of any kind in this world. Too many people with too much time on their hands.

The Corona Virus may have started in China but what the hell does that have to do with Asian Americans? It makes no sense to me. I have been fortunate enough to meet so many great people with my business, from Jewish, Black, White and Asian Americans and I can say for myself as I always have, If you’re a good person who treats me with respect you will get the same in return and thats how we ALL should live our lives!

I am happy to say I live in Newton MA and my business is in Needham MA. where there is a good amount of diversity and everyone working together for one goal, to live in PEACE! That is what the entire worlds goal should be and I bet you it would be a much happier place to live.
